As you know the bloomers of Cannington are on a mission. A few of the gang have gathered over the last couple of weeks to transform the grassed area on the corner of East Street and Portland Close.
The good folks that live on East Street have added wildflowers and other bits and bobs over the years, but it was agreed that the time was right for an overhaul…
So the bloomers set to it with mattock, spade, fork and determination. The grass was cleared and the soil was turned and raked. The team at Sedgemoor came to pick up the green waste and before we knew it we were ready to plant.
Local residents and Brymore Academy donated plants and seeds. Kind onlookers brought the team out refreshments, which were gratefully received. The people of Cannington are a good bunch and are wonderful at pulling together… The people of East Street will be keeping an eye on this border, nurturing it and supporting it to thrive and grow.
So, in went the pre grown wildflower plugs and the donated lavender and cosmos plants. Exuberant, bold drifts of seeds were sown including poppies and marigolds. As we worked we imagined with glee the cheery riot of colour that would greet us in the weeks to come..
A splash of water to settle everything in and to encourage germination resulted in mission complete.
The final watering took place in the Friendly Spirit! Well done team!
