Free Hanging Basket Workshop at Walled Gardens

Cannington in Bloom have developed a close relationship with Bridgwater College over the last few years.

For the second year running  a free hanging basket workshop is being offered at the Walled Gardens of Cannington.

Wildflowers at the Walled Gardens

This is taking place on Thursday 26th May at 7PM.

The amazingly knowledgable John Addison will lead the session, explaining how to plant up and keep the display looking good in your hanging basket throughout the summer months.

John has worked in and taught horticulture for many years. There can’t be a horticulture student from the college who doesn’t know John and have fond memories of his quick paced and hugely informative plant identification walks around the campus. He teaches RHS courses, judges at various shows and has an encyclopaedic knowledge  of plants and gardens, so it is well worth coming along.

Bring along your own hanging baskets to plant up. Plants will be available to buy on the night for a small fee to cover costs.

All are welcome so don’t be shy!

Working in Partnership with Cannington C of E Primary School

We were delighted to hear the the school is going to take on the planting and maintenance of the school path border this year. The school will be running a gardening club and it is fantastic to hear that so many of their students want to get involved. They will receive support from the team at Bridgwater College’s Walled Gardens of Cannington, as well as the expertise of the other bastion of horticulture in Cannington, Brymore Academy. The community working together to improve the wellbeing of its inhabitants and the wildlife.

To support getting this project up and running, we are meeting up at the school path border to complete some more tidying and clearance as part of our Sustainable Saturdays group. As ever, please feel free to join us. See you there at 10am this Saturday 16th April ….

We very much look forward to seeing how things develop over the coming months….

You may have spotted some bloomers out and about last night too as Weedy Wednesdays began. This regular meet up will continue right through until the autumn. We were out watering the various planters and barrier baskets around the village and having a bit of tidy up and weed of the border on the corner of Clifford Park. It’s all go!!

Well done Seed of Hope!

Our friends at Seed of Hope have been fortunate in being offered funding by Tesco as part of their Bags of Help initiative.

They have at least £8,000 to spend in the Community Orchard as part of their Spring Orchard Project which CIB wholly supports.

From the 27th February we will be able to vote for the project in Tesco stores, as one of three regional projects. If Seed of  Hope comes first they will recieve £12,000, second £10,000. So please vote for them and our community orchard will benefit.

The Walled Gardens of Cannington

Thanks to the staff of the Walled Gardens for their continuing support of Cannington in Bloom.

Not only have they come up with this great offer for residents of Cannington, but they are also going to donate 50p for each hot drink purchased in the winter months!

I can personally recommend a cappuccino 🙂
