2015 Scarecrow Competition

You can help with Cannington in Bloom’s South West in Bloom entry and have some fun at the same time! This year’s theme is a character from a children’s book or film (this doesn’t include TV series or nursery rhymes). Scarecrows should be displayed from Friday 10th July 2015 onwards. The In Bloom judges arrive on 16th July 2015 so it would be great to have them up all over the village by then. Each scarecrow will be photographed and the prizes awarded at the Cannington Flower Show on 22nd August 2015. We will publish a trail for people to follow so they can have a look at people’s creations. Long may these sunny summer evenings continue……

To enter is easy peasy! Just click here to fill in your details on-line…

Here’s a reminder of just a few of the cracking entries from last year……

Best of luck….

It is winter isn’t it?

Having spent the day in the Community Orchard on Wednesday with the Cannington Centre students, I do wonder.

The weather was beautiful, the sun was shining, ladybirds were out and the raspberries tasty.

It felt like Autumn!

Cannington Community Speedwatch

All through the year, the hardy volunteers of the community speedwatch help to keep the village roads safe.
Speed is an issue in the village due the nature of the roads, and volume of traffic at certain times of the day. These friendly folk give their time freely to help keep speeds down, and so improve road safety. We are all trained by Avon and Somerset police to carry out our duties, and anyone exceeding the limit is reported to the police and receives a letter reminding them to keep it down. Repeat offenders will get a visit from an officer, and those who are exceeding limits by a high margin will be dealt with by the police directly.

So what has this got to do with Cannington in Bloom. Well apart from having similar aims and sharing a member the speedwatch crew felt that they needed to brighten up one of their locations.

So on the 6th November decided to plant some bulbs to brighten up our sessions in the spring.

Is that car speeding? :)
